History of Loft Living in Toronto

  • 1983: Acclaimed designer, Bob Mitchell, converts 41 Shanly St in Bloor West and makes history.
  • 1993: The Merchandise Lofts are carved from the former site of the Simpson Sears warehouse. Legend has it that this site was slated for community housing but a soft market led to Cresford developments buying the building. 600 units later this amazing conversion won numerous awards & has been home to many of Toronto's most famous actors & musicians. Some innovations this building has been part of include the "tri-sorter" recycling system & a green roof.
  • 1999: The Candy Factory Lofts in Queen West. Still the anchor loft in the downtown core, this very well crafted loft conversion set the bar high for future loft developments. As the former home of the CeeDee Candy Factory, living here is still pretty "sweet". Sharing the elevator with rock stars and other elites certainly hasn't been a hard thing for me to get used to :)
  • 2002:  After buying my 1st property in 1998 & getting bit by the "loft" bug, I get my real estate license at age 27. Within a few months of starting I create a system called my "10LoftsInADay tours". Although having 30 buyers along with me for one early tour was a bit much, most tours range between 5-10 people per tour these days. LoftSellers.ca was created around this time also to help loft buyers & sellers have a voice yet also work with someone that understands that NOT everyone moves to or from lofts. As a result, I even had loft inspired modern homes & many other spaces on my tours.
  • 2008: LoftSellers.ca joins forces with Century21 to commence global control of all lofts....ok, maybe just Toronto but that's a pretty lofty goal anyways :)
  • 2011: Thanks to the recogntion I have built up along with a committment to technology that surpasses most real estate brokers, it has made LoftSellers.ca one of the most followed loft realtors with just over 2600 followers on twitter (@loftsellers) as of June 2011, this IS the only place you will need for loft living in Toronto
